Abstract

This research investigates the conceptions of high school students during the development of robotic-computational innovations with social impact, within the context of mathematics education. Conducted at the Technological Inventions Laboratory of IF-Goiano, the study involved the creation of a scientific-computational invention called Car-Robótica, aimed at supporting the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. The data, collected through computational tools, photographic records, and interviews, were qualitatively analyzed based on the frameworks of Constructionism and Computational Thinking, using the Data Triangulation method. The results reveal that students' conceptions about the role of Mathematics are mainly structured around three interrelated dimensions: (i) technical-scientific understanding, which includes the deepening of mathematical and computational knowledge necessary for the invention’s development; (ii) recognition of the innovative and creative nature of the process, characterized by experimentation and problem-solving; and (iii) perception of the invention’s social impact, linking Mathematics to human, ethical, and collective purposes. These dimensions reflect the complexity of mathematics learning when connected to projects that foster active engagement, student protagonism, and social responsibility.
