This article, an excerpt from a master’s dissertation, discusses the challenges experienced by preservice mathematics teachers from a teacher education program at a public Higher Education Institution in Pernambuco during Lesson Study in the Supervised Internship, as well as the strategies adopted to overcome them. A case study was conducted with the participation of a group of preservice teachers and the teacher educator. The challenges identified include difficulties in text analysis, task submission, task adaptation, anticipating students’ difficulties, collaboration, time management, unobtrusive observation, classroom control, improvisation, and criticism of the cooperating teacher. The main strategies to address these challenges involved collective discussions during classes, dialogue among participants for lesson planning decisions, strengthening collaboration, and organizing time for reading and analyzing texts.
