Abstract

This article aims to analyze how systems of first-degree equations with two unknowns are addressed in textbooks for the final years of elementary school, focusing on the semiotic representation registers used and the conversion proposals. The analysis is based on Raymond Duval's Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers (TRRS). The research corpus consists of two chapters from the 8th grade of collections approved by the PNLD. The research has a qualitative documentary approach. In the chapters, the types of semiotic transformations in the content of equation systems were classified. The results show the predominance of the algebraic register in the chapters, especially in the resolution activities, as well as a significant incidence of conversions from the mother tongue to the algebraic register. There is limited exploration of inverse conversions and registers such as pictorial, tabular, and numerical, which may restrict the construction of mathematical meanings.
